The Aspetar International Radiology Conference commenced today at Aspetar. The event brought together leading radiology experts, and healthcare professionals from across the globe, further establishing Aspetar’s reputation as a leader in sports medicine.
The conference, organized in collaboration with the International Skeletal Society, features a robust scientific program blending the latest theoretical advances with practical, skill-building workshops. With sessions covering cutting-edge topics such as MRI and ultrasound diagnostics, imaging-guided interventions, and the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical practice, the gathering reflects Aspetar’s commitment to advancing musculoskeletal health.
Dr Abdulaziz Jaham al Kuwari, Aspetar CEO, said:
At Aspetar, our commitment to sports medicine is fundamentally anchored in the pursuit of diagnostic excellence, with radiology serving as the cornerstone of effective athlete care and treatment planning. Today’s conference exemplifies this dedication, uniting distinguished experts in radiology and sports medicine from around the world to exchange cutting-edge knowledge and advancements. By fostering such collaboration, we not only advance the field but also enhance the quality of care for athletes, supporting their safe and timely return to peak performance. Together, we reaffirm our vision to be the global benchmark in sports medicine.
The overwhelming response and rapid registration underscore the urgent demand for specialized knowledge in this field, as participants engage in hands-on workshops and in-depth discussions designed to elevate standards of care for athletes and the wider community.
The conference opened with a keynote address that highlighted Aspetar’s leadership in the field and the vital role of radiology in both diagnosing and treating sports injuries.
Attendees explored how cutting-edge imaging technology is transforming athlete care and enhancing performance, with the program offering a dynamic mix of theoretical lectures and practical workshops.
Saturday’s proceedings began with a comprehensive session on knee imaging and intervention. Experts examined the classification of posterolateral corner knee injuries, outlined the imaging requirements crucial for knee surgeons, and discussed the growing use of imaging-guided interventional treatments.
Dr. Ramy Mansour, a member of the International Skeletal Society, presented the latest advancements in diagnosing knee injuries among football players. Dr. Alan Getgood, Aspetar’s Chief of Surgery, shared his insights on the imaging needs for cruciate and meniscal tears, while Dr. Guillaume Bierry, also from the International Skeletal Society, focused on acute and post-operative ACL imaging. Dr. Maryam Al-Naimi of Aspetar demonstrated the clinical applications of PRP, steroid, and hyaluronic acid injections, and Dr. Bruce Forster addressed the critical role imaging plays during major sporting events.
Throughout the day, additional sessions delved into nerve imaging, dynamic imaging, imaging appropriateness, bone imaging, upper limb imaging, and the latest developments in muscle and cartilage pathology. These discussions emphasized the expanding role of imaging not only in diagnosis but also in the treatment of sports-related injuries.
On Friday, ahead of the main conference, participants engaged in an interactive workshop focused on the MR assessment of hamstring muscle injuries. This hands-on session provided clinicians with practical training in thigh muscle imaging, setting the stage for the in-depth discussions to follow.
The conference will conclude tomorrow with a practical workshop on musculoskeletal pathology and imaging interpretation. Organizers anticipate that the findings and recommendations emerging from this event will further elevate the standard of healthcare provided to the sports community.
