Sports physician - Aspetar

Dr. Raouf Nader Rekik is a medical doctor and sports physician with a background in emergency medicine. He holds a PhD in Physical Activity and Sport Science, a postgraduate diploma in sports medicine from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine. He also earned two professional master’s degrees: one in the prevention of occupational risks (occupational health and safety), and another in emergency medicine and disaster management.

Since 2012, he has been serving as a Clubs and Federations Doctor in the National Sport Medicine Programme (NSMP) department at Aspetar Hospital and is a member of the Aspetar Scientific Committee. He has organized and led several accredited educational initiatives, including conferences, lecture series, and journal clubs. Prior to his role at Aspetar, he spent six years (2006–2012) as the team physician for the Tunisian national tennis team and collaborated with various clubs in football, volleyball, and athletics.

He has a strong academic and clinical interest in the prevention and management of sports injuries, with particular focus on football, the clinical applications of musculoskeletal ultrasound, and anti-doping practices and policies. His research emphasizes injury risk management, for muscle, groin and knee (anterior cruciate ligament) injuries. He has actively participated as a speaker at international conferences and has contributed to several scientific publications.

He has provided medical coverage, as VMO or ACD, at numerous international sporting events across various disciplines, including the AFC Asian Cup 2023, FIFA World Cup 2022, FIFA Club World Cup 2019, IAAF World Championships 2019, and Handball World Championships 2015.
