Director of the MSC in Sports Dentistry-Oral Health at UCL Eastman Dental Institute, UK

Professor Peter Fine is Director of the MSC in Sports Dentistry-Oral Health in Sport and Director of the Restorative Dental Practice MSc at UCL Eastman Dental Institute, London UK. Following 40 years in general dental practice, Professor Fine, completed his PhD in dental education at UCL Eastman Dental Institute in 2017 and was made Professor of Dental Education at the Eastman in 2023.  

Peter has lectured to groups and conferences around the world in both Sports Dentistry and Dental Education. He has publications in both Sports Dentistry and Dental Education, particularly in the use of feedback for students’ ongoing learning. Peter published a standard text book in Sports Dentistry in 2019. His current research interests include, the use of oral scanning and 3D printing to manufacture sports mouthguards and how these compare with traditional approaches to mouthguard manufacture and the impact of oral health on athletic performance. Peter is also looking into the role that AI has in the assessment of dental students, particularly how dental educators see their role in using AI.  

Professor Fine has been awarded the Fellowship in General Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority in the UK.
