A/Prof Francis Wong is one of the few orthopaedic surgeon-scientists in Asia with a PhD in cartilage regeneration. He is currently working as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in private practice: Oxford Cartilage and Sports Centre, Oxford Orthopaedics Pte Ltd, and provides academic contributions as an Adjunct Associate Professor in Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, National University of Singapore (NUS). His clinical practice in Oxford Cartilage and Sports Centre spans the entire repertoire of cartilage restoration and sports injury management, and works with both various national athletes in optimising their performance, such as those in football, hockey, and frisbee, as well as patients from all walks of life. He is also fervent in his public service commitments, and continues to serve as a Visiting Consultant in National University Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital.

 

He trained at National University of Singapore where he completed his MBBS, Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery, and later a Master of Clinical Investigation and finally his PhD. He was the first orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore to earn a PhD in cartilage regeneration, and is globally known for bridging surgical care with cutting-edge research in biologics and regenerative therapies. He was also the first South-east Asian to be awarded the Vericel-ICRS (International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society) Clinical Travelling Fellowship. He is actively involved in the ICRS as the committee member of the Nexgen and Nominations Committees. As a former Research Director at Sengkang General Hospital and Campus Service Chief for the SingHealth Duke-NUS Cell Therapy Centre, A/Prof Wong led several nationally funded projects in biologic cartilage repair, bone marrow-derived therapies, and exosome research, all while performing complex knee surgeries and teaching the next generation of surgeons. He currently has more than 75 peer-reviewed publications with a H-index of 26. He serves as Expert Faculty and Key Opinion Leaders for various cell and orthopaedic regenerative companies, and is regularly invited to speak in conferences and seminars.
