Franco Impellizzeri has been a Professor in Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine at the Faculty of Health of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) since 2018, where he teaches research methods. His career started in a private Corporate Sports Research Centre (MAPEI Italy), providing support (training and testing) to elite and professional athletes in different disciplines. Subsequently, Impellizzeri worked for 10 years in a clinical setting as Head of the Lower Limb Clinical Outcome Unit at the Department of Research & Development of the Schulthess Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland. During this time, his research focused on clinical outcomes and clinimetrics (patient-reported outcome measures).

Impellizzeri is a member of the editorial boards of various scientific journals, including Editor-in-chief of Science and Medicine in Football journal. His main research areas and interests include research methods (meta-research), training monitoring, and sport epidemiology. He has about 200 publications in sports science and orthopedics. A fellow of the European College of Sport Sciences, Impellizzeri is also a member of the STORK (The Society for Transparency, Openness, and Replication in Kinesiology), the Australasian Epidemiological Association, and a managing editor of Peer Community in Health & Movement Sciences. He collaborates with professional soccer clubs, sports federations and organizations as a scientific consultant, project leader and member of task forces and working groups. Impellizzeri has also worked for several years as a strength and conditioning coach for elite and Olympic athletes (Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002, Turin 2006, Beijing 2008, Rio de Janeiro 2016), including gold and bronze medalists.
