Barry Shillabeer is an experienced sports performance leader with over two decades dedicated to advancing elite sports organizations globally. Currently, as Head of Performance Support at Aspire Academy of Sporting Excellence in Qatar, he collaborates closely to optimise support systems for both emerging and high-performance athletes. Barry leads a multidisciplinary team working across several sports, focusing on athlete transition to elite levels through data-driven methodologies, strategic planning, and key performance evaluations.
Previously, Barry held leadership roles with the UK Institute of Sport and British Swimming, where he managed performance support for the National Olympic training centers and served as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Team Great Britain during the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics. His contributions include long term support of elite athletes to achieve the highest levels of performance, helping design post-games legacy training facilities, and providing long-term performance support to national governing bodies.
Barry has a Masters in Strength and Conditioning, an MBA in Global Sports Management, and with a strong academic foundation in sports science he has published on topics related to athlete development and performance metrics. A former international diver and volleyball player, Barry remains active in sports as a kite surfer, triathlete, and skier.
