Aspetar will take part in the 6th IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport in Monaco from the 25th - 27th November 2021. The attending experts will offer insights obtained through real-life case interactions, on topics including the development of hip-related pain in young athletes, load management in elite football, cardiac screening of the elite paediatric athlete, preventing overuse injuries in team sports, and how to prevent hamstring injuries.

Dr. Abdulaziz Jaham Al Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer of Aspetar, said.

Protecting athletes’ health and preventing injuries and illnesses in sport are top priorities of Aspetar. We are one of only eleven IOC research centres from around the world which have demonstrated clinical, educational, and research expertise in the fields of sports medicine and elite sports to promote the athletes’ health through prevention of injury and illness. Our participation in such a prestigious event demonstrates common efforts of the sports and science to the benefit of the sports community.

In the years since its foundation, Aspetar has developed a vibrant partnership with the IOC in sports medicine and science clinical, research, and educational matters. The quality and skills of Aspetar’s clinicians, have positioned Aspetar as a key partner in many of the IOCs education events, including several IOC Advance Team Physician Courses, previous IOC World Conferences on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport, as well as hosting the IOC Cardiology Course in 2014.

It is noteworthy that in November 2012 Aspetar created a sustainable long-term programme on injury and illness prevention, the Aspetar Sports Injury and Illness Prevention Programme (ASPREV), which is based on the two key elements of research and implementation. ASPREV’s objectives and activities are closely aligned with those of the IOC; Aspetar has been recognised as an IOC Research Centre for the Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health since November 2014.

The IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport is the premier international conference for those interested in clinical aspects of sports and exercise medicine is a unique opportunity for the global sports medicine and science community to meet face to face in the ideal environment that Monaco provides.
