36 ASPETAR MAGAZINE MEDICAL EVENTS OCTOBER 2026 Refining Modern Anaesthesia: The Aspetar Anaesthesia Symposium on TIVA, TCI & Cortical EEG Aspetar will host the Aspetar Anaesthesia Symposium: TIVA, TCI & Cortical EEG – A Clinical Update for Anaesthes ia Practitioners this year, bringing together anaesthesia professionals from Qatar and around the world for two days of advanced scientific exchange and practical learning. The symposium will highlight the growing adoption of Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) and Target-Controlled Infusion (TCI) across multiple clinical settings, reflecting their expanding role in modern anaesthetic practice. Participants wi l l explore how these techniques are increasingly applied in complex surgical and critical care environments, supported by advances in monitoring and pharmacological modelling. In addi t ion to cl inical developments, the programme intends to address the broader cons i de ra t i ons shap i ng contemporary anaesthesia, inc luding envi ronmental sustainability, carbon footprint reduction, and emerging evidence related to cancer and non-cancer outcomes. A strong focus will be placed on cortical EEG interpretation, now recognised as a cornerstone of personal i sed anaesthet ic management. Scientific sessions will cover contemporary TCI models, pharmacology, EEG monitoring, clinical audit methodologies, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on patient safety and outcomes. These discussions will also be complemented by five interactive workshops, which will provide hands-on training tailored to both early-career clinicians and experienced practitioners. Specialised sessions on advanced TCI models and paediatric anaesthesia are set to further enhance the programme, ensuring relevance across subspecialties. By bridging theory with clinical application, the symposium aims to reinforce Aspetar’s role as a regional and international leader in anaesthesia education and innovation.
