Issue targeted topic - sports medicine in cycling

December 2016

Our final issue of 2016 is a Targeted Topic on Sports Medicine in Cycling. Aspetar doctors Roger Palfreeman and Yorck Olaf Schumacher, who both have extensive pedigree in science and medicine in cycling, are Guest Editors, bringing authors with vast experience in all aspects of the sport at the professional level. The articles included delve into all areas of scientific and medical support, including training with power meters, nutrition for Grand Tours, management of traumatic skin wounds, doping and anti-doping, and overuse injuries. We also interview three-time Tour De France champion, Chris Froome, who tells us about the fastidious attention to details required in training, nutrition, recovery and equipment for a pro cyclist on the road in the WorldTour; as well as the win-at-all-costs attitude needed to compete in one of the most gruelling endurance events on earth.
