To help an athlete maintain their fitness conditioning while they recover from injury, Aspetar’s Rehabilitation Department has a large and fully functional fitness area staffed by physical coaches trained to manage a patient’s fitness needs. Innovative and state of the art equipment compliment an endless variety of specific programmes and exercises, while our highly trained staff perform an in-depth assessment before creating an individualised programme for every patient. These steps protect the already injured area while maintaining, or even improving, the rest of the body during the athletes recovery from injury to return to sport. In addition, our team of physical coaches work closely with the male and female rehabilitation team of physiotherapist to ensure optimal programming for the patient from day one.

The Alter G treadmill gives you the possibility to keep your fitness level and mobility even though you have lower body injury.

You can run with only 10% of your body weight which avoids the pressure on the injured knee or ankle. With the time, the physiotherapist will increase gradually the purcentage until your reach 100% of your body weight.

To have a healthy body, you need to have a healthy brain.

This area of the rehabilitation department is the only place where athletes are using every single part of their body except for the injured part. Our physical coaches are touching every area of the human body. They spend their time analyzing the person to find the best way to assist them improving physically but also mentally (concentration issues, depression, stress, etc.).

After analyzing the athletes, our physical coaches will put a system in place that will orient the athletes towards success.

The physical coaches will follow the athlete from his first step in the area until the end of his session. They will stimulate him, motivate him, increase the awareness on how the body function (helping him to understand), teaching him how to handle fatigue, stress, etc.

A heart rate monitor will help evaluate the athlete and help him to reach his target. They will teach them how to relax during the exercise to always go further.

  • Aspetar Sports Cardiology team is dedicated to looking after the cardiovascular health of our middle east and our international athletes within Qatar.
  • The sports cardiology project is just a small part of Aspetar global screening project whereby we look after the complete health of our athletes.
  • We are also interested within research and Aspetar is leading worldwide projects looking at the genomics behind athlete’s heart integrating with genetics services within France and Qatar to look at the genetics behind why some athletes develop an abnormal ECG or an abnormal Echo
  • The reason we screen our athletes is because we are concerned about sudden death on the sports pitch and we try to exclude it where it is possible
  • We have 2 partnership
    • Prof. Francois Carre, Pontchaillou Hospital in Rennes, France
    • Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Kings College Hospital, London
  • The Aspetar Altitude Dormitory is a purpose-built normobaric hypoxic facility that utilises an oxygen filtration system to reduce the concentration of oxygen in the air. The rooms can re-produce an altitude range from 500 to 4500 metres, enabling athletes to adopt a “live high-train low” regime whereby they can reside in comfort at raised altitudes, while training at sea level. This regime has the potential to enhance endurance performance by encouraging the body to increase the red blood cell production, and hence oxygen carriage.
  • Athletes are required to spend a minimum of 12 hours per day/night in the hypoxic room or the surrounding common rooms over a period of 3-6 weeks, while his/her vital signs and oxygen saturation levels are checked on a daily basis by a physiologist.
  • Aspetar has 25 normobaric rooms, all of which offer 5star services such as 24h room services, internet, etc.
  • We have 4 operating theaters based on the first floor with direct lift to the wards. We have 50 post-surgery bedrooms but only 25 are in use at the moment.
  • Our 3 Aspetar based surgeons are specialized in knee, shoulder and ankle but we also developed a programme of visiting surgeons that would come approximately every 5 weeks and are specialized in specific part of the body such as the hand, the hip, the growing pain, etc.
  • We are currently creating informative DVD on specific injuries. The purpose is to reduce as much as possible the stress and anxiety on the athlete.
  • Pre-surgery physiotherapy sessions are offered to the athlete to teach him home exercises, walking with crutches, etc.

Spanning a surface area of 5000 square meters (53819.5 square feet), the expansion represents a new and distinctive addition to Aspetar on three levels: medical, expertise and service. Medically, the new clinics will break from tradition to treat sports injuries using innovative technologies for the first time in Qatar. These include the Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Electromyography (EMG). On the expertise level, Aspetar will hire a new group of global, certified physicians and experts, who specialize in the treatment of different sports injuries. At the service level, the expansion will increase the capacity of Aspetar to almost the double, and this doubled capacity will help reduce the waiting time for athletic and non-athletics patients languishing on long waiting lists.
