Musculoskeletal Medicine at Aspetar
In keeping with our goal to help athletes achieve their full potential, we not only treat registered athletes but also recreational athletes, people aspiring to be more athletic, and individuals whose injuries or pain have limited them from participation in athletics. That is where the Musculoskeletal Medicine (MSK) department steps in; with a variety of specialists in different fields of expertise, all focused on the musculoskeletal system, we strive to help anyone who wants to play sports or be more active and fit.
Our goal is to promote physical fitness and remove any barriers that may prevent individuals or athletes from participating in sports at the highest level they are capable of. The MSK department also serves as a backdrop for highly specialised services to assist the sports medicine physicians who refer athletes for advance treatments or multi-specialty care, and for our surgical colleagues in managing post-operative pain and limitations.
MSK at Aspetar boasts a team of 14 physicians, dedicated to treating injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system affecting the muscles, joints, bones, and nerves; everything from arthritis and running injuries, to fractures not requiring surgery. All surgical cases are referred to our Orthopaedics department. We have additional expertise in the care of chronic disorders, with a special focus on shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot problems. In our MSK department alone we field around 12,000 patient visits each year, and our patients are not limited to the local population but visit us from all over the world. A diverse group of physicians make up a multidisciplinary team to provide care for every one of these patients.
