Issue targeted topic - hot topics in football medicine

December 2021

Football is the most popular sport in the World, and football injuries – especially in famous players – often make headline news. This special edition of the journal tackles some of the biggest issues the football medicine community has faced over the past few years. We look at controversial current affairs, such as return to football after COVID, sudden cardiac arrest on the pitch, sports concussion and mental health in football. We also discuss old ideas and new techniques in the perennial favourites: groin, hamstring and ankle injuries, as well as imaging. Finally, we boldly step into the future with new concepts in football boot design and a topic which has been looming like the proverbial pink elephant in the room: diversity, inclusiveness and player welfare. ‘Hot Topics in Football Medicine’ promises to be newsworthy and thought-provoking!
