Aspetar Magazine
62 ASPETAR MAGAZINE SPECIAL REPORT Coordination is central to success. For the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ and the AGCFF U-17 Gulf Cup, how does Aspetar plan to address the specific medical needs of young athletes? Youth tournaments present unique considerations. Young athletes may be more vulnerable to overuse injuries, growth-related conditions, and psychological stress. Our paediatric sports medicine specialists and psychologists will play an essential role, ensuring both physical and mental well-being. Education and communication with coaches and medical staff are also vital. How is coordination handled with organising committees? Coordination is central to success. We have established joint medical task forces with FIFA, the Qatar Football Association, and local health authorities. Regular workshops, site visits, and joint simulations help align protocols and guarantee that all parties work seamlessly together. If there were to be any challenges or risks, is there a plan set in motion to prevent anything from happening? Absolutely. We adopt a proactive approach to risk management. For example, we conduct detailed contingency planning for scenarios ranging from heat-related illness and cardiac emergencies to infectious disease outbreaks. By preparing for the unexpected, we minimise risks and ensure athletes can compete safely.
