34 ASPETAR MAGAZINE ASPETAR IN NEWS Heroic Intervention: Aspetar Team Saves Life at Fencing Grand Prix A medical team from Aspetar successfully saved the life of the President of the Czech Fencing Federation, Oldrich Kubišta, after he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while attending the Fencing Grand Prix in Qatar. The Aspetar team, with support from the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), quickly provided critical first aid and stabilised the patient. The timely and professional intervention was crucial. Kubišta was transferred to Hamad General Hospital, where he underwent a successful cardiac catheterisation. This incident highlights Aspetar’s expertise in emergency medical care and its commitment to ensuring a safe environment at major sporting events. Aspetar has provided medical coverage for over 100 local and international events in the past year alone. This is not the first time the hospital’s team has performed a life- saving intervention; they previously saved a Qatari League footballer who had a cardiac emergency during a match. This latest achievement further solidifies Aspetar’s reputation as a global leader in sports medicine.
