33 ASPETAR MAGAZINE ASPETAR IN NEWS Powering Performance: Aspetar, FIP, and Premier Padel Unite for Athlete Health Aspetar has partnered with the International Padel Federation (FIP) and Premier Padel to advance the health and performance of professional padel athletes. This new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will focus on several key research initiatives. The collaboration will observe and analyse injury and illness patterns among players to develop effective prevention strategies. It will also use advanced, non-intrusive technology to quantify the physiological demands of the sport, helping to optimise training and manage player workloads. Finally, a study will be conducted to compare the demands of professional padel with other racket sports, providing unique insights. Mr. Khalid Ali Al Mawalawi, Aspetar’s Acting Director General, highlighted the hospital’s commitment to player safety, stating: “Player safety is paramount at Aspetar, and we always strive to provide the best medical and treatment services to help them compete to their fullest potential.” Luigi Carraro, FIP President, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the necessity of this research for the sport's future: “Investing in research on injury prevention is not just a responsibility—it is a necessity to ensure the future of our sport remains safe, competitive, and sustainable.” This strategic partnership places player well-being at the forefront of padel’s development, ensuring the long-term health and safety of athletes worldwide. Global Leadership: Aspetar Named Official Medical Partner for UEFA Conference Aspetar was the official medical partner for the ninth UEFA Medical Conference, held in Lugano, Switzerland, from 4-6th February , 2025. This partnership highlights Aspetar’s global leadership in sports medicine, building on its previous collaborations with major international sports bodies like FIFA and the International Olympic Committee. The partnership aims to share Aspetar’s extensive experience with its European counterparts and advance scientific research in sports medicine. Khalid Ali Al-Mawlawi, Acting Director General of Aspetar, commented on the partnership, noting that it is a “…significant milestone for Aspetar, enabling us to share our extensive experience and insights with our European counterparts, thereby advancing our global leadership in sports medicine.” The conference, which is attracted over 550 doctors and therapists from national teams and UEFA Champions League clubs, focused on the latest advancements in sports medicine for women’s football. This collaboration began in 2019 when Aspetar hosted a joint workshop for team doctors from the Asian and European Champions Leagues.
