60 ASPETAR MAGAZINE SPECIAL REPORT Aspetar’s early involvement in FIFA World Cups™ was characterised by direct, hands-on support for national teams, an experience that would prove fundamental to its institutional development. During the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa and the 2014 tournament in Brazil, Dr Cristiano Eirale, Chief of Sports Medicine at Aspetar, was part of the Aspetar medical teams supporting national sides at football’s biggest stage, serving as team physician for Algeria and Ivory Coast respectively. Working alongside colleagues from the hospital, he helped translate Aspetar’s multidisciplinary philosophy into the high-pressure environment of international competition. With extensive experience in elite athlete care and international competition, Dr Eirale played a key role in applying integrated medical and performance principles in real -world tournament settings, contributing to the institution’s growing international expertise. These World Cups exposed him, and Aspetar clinicians, to the realities of tournament medicine under vast ly di fferent environmental, logistical, and performance demands.
