Step into Health (SIH) is a dynamic well-being programme initiated by the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), under the supervision and management of Aspetar’s Exercise Is Medicine (EIM) Department, that is intended for men, women and teenagers over 16 years of age.
SIH aims to promote the concept of holistic health change to engage the people of Qatar in a self-managed lifelong programme based on a moderate amount of daily physical activity, encouraging each person to walk 10,000 steps and more a day in a non-competitive, recreational and social approach.
It is a multi-interventional programme that uses interactive tools, such as pedometers, online support and applications to set targets for physical activity and nutrition, and can help individuals to monitor their performance via an online programme. Since SIH launched in December 2012, 44,250 people have joined the programme, and 27,000 people have received pedometers.
SIH also encourages organisations to adopt physical activity programmes, and create access to area where people can be physically active.
