Research & Education Centre
Sports medicine services are supported by scientific research and education. The
Research and Education Centre (REC) ensures efficient support of Aspetar personnel
and use of facilities, equipment and other resources.
The objectives of REC are to:
- Develop internationally competitive knowledge through maintaining the academic freedom
of personnel to investigate, report and publish peer reviewed research
- Develop the research capacity and capability within Aspetar through highly trained
health and medical research professionals who have access to world leading facilities
and equipment
- Engage Qatari Nationals and expatriate communities to increase the awareness of
the Qatari community about the benefits of research and advice
The REC uses an environmental chamber to manipulate temperature, humidity and altitude
to examine the effect of extreme environmental conditions upon cognitive, immune,
neuromuscular and performance variables.
The REC has also created a Special Interest Group (SIG) in Thermoregulation (http://sig-temperature.com). The SIG is comprised of a
global group of researchers specialised in exercise physiology with a strong interest
in environmental physiology.
