Dr. Julien Périard

Research Scientist

Dr. Périard is a research scientist in environmental physiology. In 2003, he completed his Master’s degree at the University of Ottawa investigating post-exercise vasomotor and sudomotor control. From 2002 to 2007, Dr. Périard trained at the National Triathlon Centre in Victoria, Canada, while racing on the International Triathlon Union circuit. Following his triathlon career, he completed a Ph.D. at the University of Sydney, (2007-2011) where he investigated the mechanisms limiting prolonged exercise performance in the heat. During his tenure in Sydney, he worked as a Postgraduate Teaching and Research Fellow. Dr. Périard’s scientific expertise lies in the area of integrative environmental physiology. His research examines the physiological mechanisms that mediate performance and fatigue in adverse environmental conditions from a cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and neuromuscular perspective. His research interests also include heat shock proteins and enhancing our understanding of their role under stress. These research interests are aimed at influencing athletic populations in performance environments, as well as recreational athletes and individuals performing occupational tasks in the work force.
