Sports Medicine Consultant

Dr. Gert Goudswaard started his career as Club doctor for professional FC Excelsior Rotterdam (1993-1997). He was then asked to also provide services as team doctor for the National Women’s Volleyball Team, that won the European Championship (1995) and competed in the World Cup, Grand Prix and the Atlanta Olympic Games (1995-1996). He worked at the Royal Dutch Football Association (1995-1999), where he looked after the U23 & U17 National Teams as work in OPD. In 1999 he was offered the position as Chief Medical Officer at Glasgow Rangers Football Club (1999-2003). From 2002 he combined this position, with the position of team doctor for the Dutch National Football Team, competing in qualifications and actual European Championships 2004 (Portugal), 2008 (Austria Switzerland) and 2012 (Ukrain/Poland), as well for World Cups 2006 (Germany) and 2010 (South-Africa). Medical coverage as team doctor was also provided to the Dutch National Football Team U17 (European Championship 2005/2009/2011, World Cup 2005/2009/2011), From 2003 Dr. Gert was assigned as Chief Medical Officer for the Royal Dutch Football Association (2003-2012) and Medical manager at the Medical Department, which was awarded FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence Award in 2011. In August 2012 he was assigned as Medical Director Qatar National Football Teams. Since May 2017 he works as Sport Medical Consultant at the Sport Medicine Department.
