Scott D. Gillogly, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Gillogly has just completed the 2015 season as Team Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon for the MLB Atlanta Braves Baseball club. Dr. Gillogly is the past Head Team Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Atlanta Falcons NFL Football Team and the Atlanta Thrashers NHL Hockey Club. He is a Consultant for Professional Athletes from all the professional leagues including Football, Hockey, Basketball, and Soccer. Dr. Gillogly is the Former Medical Director of Women's USA Soccer League, Head Team Physician for the U.S. Team Handball Federation, University of West Georgia, the Past President of the National Hockey League Team Physicians Society, the American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society and is a member of the Herodicus Society and the Georgia and Atlanta Orthopaedic Societies. He has served and chaired numerous Committees and Course directorships for continuing physician education and advancement of Sports Medicine and Cartilage Repair Research.

DR. GILLOGLY specializes in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Surgery and Biologic Cartilage Restoration.

He has been an early pioneer in using autologous chondrocyte cells for repair of cartilage defects in the knee. His clinical series of ACI for knee cartilage injuries at the Atlanta Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center is among the largest in the World. Dr. Gillogly continues to lecture nationally and internationally on numerous topics in Sports Medicine and articular cartilage repair. Dr. Gillogly has authored numerous lectures, exhibits and publications on a wide range of Sports Medicine topics to include aspects of knee ligament reconstructive surgery, management of knee articular cartilage injuries, shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, and overuse syndromes in athletes. He treats athletes from all levels of play.


DR. GILLOGLY was born in Iowa and grew up in East Aurora, New York near Buffalo. He attended Iroquois Central High School where he was the captain of the Football, Basketball and Track teams. He was an inaugural member of his high school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. He was also a 1972 graduate of Phillips Academy, Andover. Dr. Gillogly his Bachelor of Science Degree at the United States Military Academy West Point, New York, where he excelled as the captain and quarterback of the Army football team. Among his honors at West Point, Dr. Gillogly was named to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete All-American Team in 1975. He received his Medical Degree in 1980 from Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, North Carolina. He proceeded to a surgical internship and orthopaedic residency program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

DR. GILLOGLY is sub-specialty trained in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery, having completed a Fellowship under the direction of James R. Andrews, M.D. at Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, Birmingham, Alabama in 1988. Dr. Gillogly completed a distinguished military career in the Army Medical Corps with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and received awards to include Meritorious Service Commendations, Southwest Asia Service, and Kuwait Liberation Medals for outstanding service as Chief of Orthopaedics at an Evacuation Hospital during Operations Desert Shield/Storm and as Chief of Sports Medicine and Director of Orthopaedic Research at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Denver, Colorado from 1988 through 1992. Dr. Gillogly has had his practice in Atlanta since 1993 and is the President and Medical Director of the Atlanta Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center LLC., Atlanta Sports Medicine Surgery Center, and is Fellowship Director for the Atlanta Sports Medicine Foundation Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Articular Cartilage Reconstruction.
