Aspetar to provide round-the-clock medical support at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championship 2019

The Asian Athletics Championships Doha 2019 will also serve as the test event for the upcoming IAAF World Athletic Championship Doha 2019, from September 27 – October 6.

Aspetar, through the National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP), will provide round-the-clock medical and health services to athletes, on-site emergency and first aid care and transfer of urgent and non-urgent medical cases to appropriate medical facilities. These services will be available to 40 participating countries, 800 registered athletes and 200 team officials during the course of the event.

Aspetar’s multidisciplinary medical team of experts is staffed by some of the world’s leading sports medicine physicians, nurses, massage therapists and physiotherapists, all of whom will support the world-class event in April.

In addition, from May 3-5, Aspetar is gearing up to host the International Conference on Sports and Medicine. The conference is being prepared by the scientific planning committee at Aspetar and will feature local and international experts.

By supporting sports mega events in the country, Aspetar is cementing its leading role in the treatment and prevention of injury to local, regional and international athletes across all sports. Aspetar’s experts have a wealth of experience in supporting athletes participating in major tournaments in Qatar, including the IAAF Diamond League 2018, FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World series 2018, 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, 2016  UCI Road Cycling World Championships, 24th Men’s Handball World Championship in 2015, 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships. .

Qatar’s status as a world-leading sports hub grows more assured each day. In a short period of time, the country has emerged as a sporting capital of the Middle East and Asia after winning the rights to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ in 2010, which will set a new benchmark for hosting sports mega events in the country.
