Aspetar organises a conference to discuss the management of sports medicine emergencies on the field

Through the National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP), Aspetar organised a substantial conference entitled “Aspetar Clubs & Federations Conference – Emergencies on the field” today on October 3rd, 2018, the objective of the event is to shed light on the medical emergencies that occur in the sport fields, their management and how to make the appropriate medical decisions and seeking the best outcomes that can be useful for the Sports Medicine practitioners in Qatar.

In this regard Dr. Abdulaziz Jaham Al Kuwari, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Aspetar Said:

Aspetar always supports professional athletes in Qatar by providing unique on and off the field sports medicine services during all kinds of sports events, we are providing a comprehensive health care for athletes, especially with regard to diagnosing treating injuries, and speedy recovery.

He added,

Through this conference Aspetar seeks to stay updated with the latest developments in sports medicine emergency services on the field and implement the appropriate management and evaluation approaches,  

The Scientific Committee of the Conference, discussed the latest information on the various topics related to the treatment of emergencies in sports fields and thus to review the best and latest practices available.

This conference covers implementing the appropriate methods for assessing and managing medical emergencies and injuries as they occur in the field during play, as well as developing the medical care system in terms of making the right medical decisions to obtain efficient, modern and high-quality services.

About the conference, Dr. Rachid Bouras, Director of National Sports Medicine Programme in Aspetar said,

This conference contributes to ensuring that sports medical practitioners in the clubs and federations have a high level of medical education to improve their skills and thus provide best medical practices and provide excellent services to athletes in Qatar and to participants in all sporting events held in the country by implementing specific protocols for the management of sports medicine emergencies on the field.

The conference attended by a distinguished group of Aspetar experts, including 17 lecturers from different disciplines, to cover all issues related to the management and treatment of medical emergencies in the sports fields during the game. The lecturers also reviewed several medical emergency cases that may occur during the play ranging from life-threatening situations to injuries that may have a serious impact on the athlete’s future career and health in general.

Among the topics discussed are those related to sports fields injuries and their management, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation during play, head injuries and brain concussion, as well as neck and spine injuries. The conference also addresses the issues of fracture, torsion, dislocation, wound care and control of haemorrhagic injuries as well as discussing diseases associated with increasing temperature.

It is worth mentioning that the National Sports Medicine Programme, launched by Aspetar in 2009, is a pioneering and unique initiative in the State of Qatar aimed at developing the quality of sports medicine for all Qatari clubs and federations and benefiting all local athletes and players from various sports through an expert medical team consists of doctors, therapists and nurses.

Over the past year, the National Sports Medicine Program in Aspetar has provided medical care for all sporting events held in the country, which exceeded 83 sports events, with an average of 11,000 working hours, and supervised by 370 doctors and specialists.
