Attended by various representatives from 16 sport clubs in Doha, in addition to senior officials from Aspetar, the meeting aimed to address key issues faced by local clubs, and reach a shared understanding regarding the ongoing progress of the league’s strategy, and review the programmes and priorities discussed in previous meetings. Aspetar’s role to provide better sports medicine services to all clubs and federations was also addressed.

This meeting is in line with Aspetar’s commitment to support local clubs and federations in Qatar. Aspetar is one of the main healthcare providers to oversee the health of local athletes through its National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP).

The NSMP is a pioneering programme established to facilitate the development of quality in sports medicine care for all registered athletes in sporting clubs and federations within Qatar and Aspire Academy. The programme is delivered in close collaboration with all local sports institutions in Qatar.

Before the meeting’s kick off, Dr. Abdulaziz Jeham Al Kuwari, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aspetar, accompanied by Mr. Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), welcomed the sports clubs’ representatives in attendance and briefed them about the services the hospital provides for athletes during a comprehensive tour of some Aspetar’s facilities such as athletes rehabilitation and improvement departments.

Speaking on the side-lines of the event, Mr. Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi, CAO at Aspetar, said:

“This meeting at Aspetar is part of our continued cooperation with, and commitment to, the various Qatari sports entities that we engage with regularly through our NSMP. This programme aims to elevate Qatar’s sporting scene and ensure the sports medicine sector serves the local sporting clubs and continues to improve athletes’ performance. Feedback from our Qatari stakeholders is essential to ensure we are always improving our services, and to raise Aspetar’s awareness so that every sporting organisation in Qatar knows about the services we can offer to their athletes.”

Al Mawlawi added:

Thanks to the participation of the local representatives and leaders of the local sports clubs, we expect this meeting to yield positive results that will improve the performance of the next sports season in Qatar.

Meanwhile, HE Sheikh Ahmed Bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Sports Club Council remarked:

Our decision to hold our monthly meeting in Aspetar stems from the hospital’s tremendous efforts and the prominent role it plays to support local professional athletes in Qatar through its world-class sports medicine, treatment and rehabilitation services. Aspetar reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local sports in and we’re proud to have this renowned medical hospital in Qatar.

After the meeting concluded, the attendees were briefed about the NSMP programme and the services it provides to treat and prevent sports-related injuries.

The Qatar Sports Club Council plays an important role in linking various clubs in the general interest of local sports in Qatar, particularly in areas of interest to the national teams. It plays an active role in the decision-making process, whether related to the local sports in general, or the clubs in particular.
