Support national teams is a huge honour

Over the last decade, Aspetar has played a pivotal role in preparing Qatari sport stars for global competitions. Using state of the art facilities staffed by some of the world’s best sports medicine practitioners and researchers, all of whom are fully dedicated to helping athletes achieve their best, the speed of athletes’ rapid recovery after treatment at Aspetar demonstrates time and again the strength of Aspetar’s approach.

Commenting on this support, Dr. Mohamed Ghaith Al-Kuwari, Acting Director General of Aspetar, said:

“It is our mission to help athletes achieve their full potential. To do so, we get involved early in the preparation stage ahead of major events to identify each athlete’s needs and provide the necessary support. This continues during and after the tournament to ensure every athlete gets the proper rest and recovery treatment, and only really stops once an athlete has returned home. We dedicate all our medical, scientific and research capabilities to our athletes, in addition to a specialized team of experts that accompanies the group to provide support around the clock.”

Aspetar’s doors are always open for all local and international athletes

Dr. Juan-Manuel Alonso, Sports Medicine Physician at Aspetar, said:

“Aspetar is an IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health and its doors are always open to world athletics stars. Among the athletes to visit us are the high jump champion Mutaz Barshim, the hammer thrower Ashraf Al Saifi, the javelin thrower Ahmed Bedir, the talented runner Abdulrahman Samba and his teammate Abdalelah Haroun, in addition to several others in a range of sports.”

More recently, Aspetar has become the preferred medical destination for athletes looking to participate in the IAAF World Championships in London. Those players include prominent names such as the American triple jump champion Christian Taylor and runners LaShawn Merritt, Justin Gatlin, and Alison Felix. The Croatian discus thrower, Sandra Berkovic, the Tunisian runner Habiba Ghribi and the French runner Mahiedine Mekhissi have all also received treatment at Aspetar.

Aspetar extends medical support to the national athletics team in London

The main role of the medical delegation accompanying the Qatar national team to London will be to monitor athletes’ health conditions and help to maximise their performances on the field. Aspetar experts will provide injury diagnosis, rehabilitation, as well as medical consultancy and advice regarding nutrition, recovery, sleeping cycles and other many services.

During recent months, Aspetar has also provided a number of medical screening services for participating athletes, as well as overseeing the process of shipping all the necessary medical supplies, such as antibiotics, analgesics, dressings and other consumables, to provide proper medical care to athletes while they are in London.

Aspetar, the Official Medical Service Provider of the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha

Aspetar will be the Official Medical Service Provider of the seventh edition of the IAAF World Championships scheduled to be held in Doha in 2019.  Dr. Mohamed Ghaith Al-Kuwari, Acting Director General of Aspetar, will steer the medical commission that has started its work by holding two meetings with the representatives of Anti-Doping Lab Qatar and Hamad Medical Corporation.

Aspetar’s experts have a wealth experience, having accompanied Qatar’s Olympic delegation to the 2016 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and London respectively. The hospital also appointed medical delegations to accompany the Algerian national football team at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup competitions in South Africa and Brazil respectively, as well working with the Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) national football team at the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
