Over 400 Medical experts exchange knowledge at Aspetar’s 5th United Quality and Patient Safety Conference

As part of its leadership role in the field, Aspetar’s three-day conference aims to advance doctors’ and participants’ sports medical knowledge and provide them with that latest tools and initiatives in patient safety, to further enhance the overall quality of healthcare services.

During the conference, world-class Sports Medicine experts from Aspetar and other leading medical organisations, took part in 15 panel discussions around a wide range of topics related to Patient Safety, Minimising Organisational Risks, and the Overall Importance of Incorporating a Culture of Safety in healthcare. In its efforts to enhance participants’ experiences even further, Aspetar held active knowledge-sharing workshops in specialised topics.

Some of speakers at the conference included internationally-renowned medical professionals, such as Dr. Tim McDonald, who spoke about ‘The Candor Project’, a process used by medical professionals to effectively respond to unexpected patient harm events. In addition to Dr. Roger Palfreema, who provided insights on the ‘Management of Skin Wounds in Cyclists’, and Dr. Lyncia Mirana on “Connecting Performance Management to People for Better Clinical Outcomes.”

The second and third day of the conference featured Dr. Yousuf Al Maslamani in a lecture on “Quality Health Care: A Thing of the Past?” as well as Dr. Naser Al-Ansari who gave a speech on “Infection Prevention and Oral Care”. A workshop was also conducted by Dr. Polyvious Kyritsis, addressing the ‘Final Stage of Rehab before the Return to Sport’; in addition to a lecture by Salwa Allenjawi on “Quality Improvement in Radiology”.

The last two days also featured Dr. Ahmed Ahmed Al-Jedai in a lecture on “Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Automation: A Regional Tertiary Care Experience, Lessons Learned”; and Dr. Osama Tabbara in a panel discussion on “Building a Culture of Engagement in Your Department”. Dr. Al Hareth Al Khater and Manal Zeidan also presented a lecture on“Ethics, Quality and Patient Safety” and “Translating Medication Safety from Education to Practice”, respectively.

The conference served as a platform for professionals to network with other healthcare quality, medical, pharmacy, radiology, nursing, rehabilitation, and dental professionals within Qatar.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Syed Sajid Ahmed, Head of Quality at Aspetar, and Chair of the Scientific Committee at the conference, said,
