Aspetar researchers showcased Qatar’s experience in physical activity at an international conference in Scotland

Doha: June 13th 2015 – An elite delegation of researchers from Aspetar’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme showcased insightful Qatar based researches on “Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity” at the 14th Meeting of the “International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity” held in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Scotland from 3rd to 6th June 2015. The conference was a distinctive international forum for new discoveries, also for the latest scientific and clinical research related to Nutrition and Physical Activity. During the three days of the conference, Aspetar researchers discussed their findings in relation to physical activity and a variety of topics pertaining to the community ‘s wellbeing through their seven scientific researches, highlighting the unique experience of Qatar in promoting physical activity and its benefit for health giving the best life example ‘Step Into health’ programme. The showcased researches included the following presentations from Aspetar researchers in the respective fields of interest:” The effects of a 12-month pedometer-determined physical activity intervention on adults in Qatar” presented by Aspetar Director General, Mohamed Ghaith Al-Kuwari, “Perceived barriers, motivators, and benefits of physical activity in Qatar” debated by Abdulla Albuflasa, Senior Health Promotion Researcher, when Mr Abdulla Al-Mohannadi, Senior Health Promotion Researcher highlight “Pocket Pedometer vs. Smartphone-based Pedometer to Promote Physical Activity in the Community: Experience from Qatar”. Dr Izzeldin Ibrahim, Head of Healthy Lifestyle Programme, showcased Qatar Active Schools projects, meanwhile Aspetar researcher Lena Zimmo showed a case study about physical activity measurement equipment on the primary schools pupils. Finally, Mr Abdulaziz Farooq ,Aspetar researcher talked about “low physical activity rate for boys afterir teens ”. Aspetar’s healthy lifestyle programme is one of the leading healthy programmes in the region, to support Qatar National Vision 2030 that encourages the society to become more active and healthier. It includes many initiatives as “Step Into health”, “Exercise is medicine”, “Haraka wa Seha” and “Qatar Active schools” projects.
