Aspetar celebrates ‘Step into Health’ achievements and awards participating campuses’ students

Doha 30 April 2015- Aspetar through Healthy Lifestyle Programme (HLP) has recently hosted at The Torch Doha Hotel the Awards Ceremony of Step into Health in Campuses initiative 2015. The Step Into Health Programme (SIH) is designed to encourage the people of Qatar to improve their lifestyle into a self-managed lifelong programme based on a moderate amount of daily activity. SIH promotes physical activity at community level, within workplaces, universities and for patients with specific conditions. The 41,606 members have walked nearly 10 million kilometres. SIH in the workplace is an initiative that promotes an active healthy lifestyle for office employees offering SIH as walking challenge. As a part of the celebrations of Qatar National Sport Day, Aspetar rewarded active walkers from 6 organizations which participated in this workplace challenge. 14 Companies with 2500 members have joined the Step into health workplace initiative. This healthy lifestyle campaign for students and staff brought together the participation of around 3700 students, staff and employees from 11 universities of Qatar: Community College Qatar , Qatar University – Male and Female Campus, College of North Atlantic Qatar, Stenden University Qatar, University of Calgary Qatar, Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar, Well Cornell Medical College Qatar, Carnegie Melon University Qatar, Georgetown University Qatar, Northwestern University Qatar, Texas A&M University Qatar. Compared to last year, the 2014-2015 initiative increased the number of participating universities by 60% and doubled the number of SIH Members. During the three months the campuses’ members achieved more than 16 Billion steps which equals 734 051 km. This high achievement was possible due to collaborative efforts towards a healthier active lifestyle within campuses’ environment. The top three campuses were: Community College of Qatar (CCQ) - 1st place, College of the North Atlantic Qatar (CNAQ)- 2nd place and Stenden University-3rd place. Aspetar congratulated the top three campuses for their great efforts in promoting this health awareness initiative with great accomplishments as well as all participating universities for being healthy active campuses. Aspetar also extended their thanks to RasGas for sponsoring the programme for another year.
