Trio of competitors make use of medical experts and world class facilities during Diamond League. Doha, Qatar (May 13, 2014) – Olympic champion, Taoufik Makhloufi, visited Aspetar on Tuesday, May 13, to receive physiotherapy treatment ahead of the next International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meet in Shanghai on May 18. The Algerian athlete, who won a gold medal in the 1,500 metres at the London 2012 Olympic Games, marked the last of a trio of athletes who visited Aspetar for treatment while staying in Doha for the first IAAF Diamond League event of the season.
"I wanted to stay in Qatar after participating in the Diamond League, and for it to serve as a layover before Shanghai. I think it was the right decision,” he said. "Aspetar boasts fantastic facilities and world-class experts. I had a complete medical check-up under the supervision of a range of skilled doctors. I feel very comfortable with my approach to Shanghai,".
Makhloufi added. Olympic shot putter Valerie Adams and up-and-coming triple-jumper Kimberly Williams also received routine medical checks at Aspetar last week. The athletes excelled during the IAAF event, which took place on Friday, with New Zealand’s Valerie Adams clinching first place after tossing a mighty 20.20 metres during her first attempt. The Olympic champion praised the hospital during her visit, saying,
“I am delighted to have been able to visit Aspetar. It is an amazing facility, where I received five star medical treatment during my routine examination”.
Jamaican Kimberly Williams finished in third place in the women’s triple jump after completing a 14.15 metre third round effort. Colombia’s Caterine Ibargüen won the event with a world leading jump of 14.43 metres, while Olha Saladukha of Ukraine came second with a leap of 14.32 metres. Aspetar is committed to helping athletes realise their athletic potential and they regularly treat professional sportspeople. Last year alone, Aspetar treated Olympic gold medallist Justin Gatlin and Olympic silver medallist Habiba Ghribi. Meanwhile, IAAF President, Mr Lamine Diack, visited Aspetar on Wednesday, May 7, ahead of the Diamond League meet. Mr Diack was joined by Major General Dahlan Al-Hamad, the President of Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) and Asian Athletics Association (AAA).
