The Medical Imaging Department is equipped with both 1.5T and 3T Magnetic Resonance scanners. The availability of both 1.5T and 3T imaging provides for optimal imaging and the ability to ensure patients with surgical implants can be examined safely following implant manufacturers guidelines.
Musculoskeletal sports imaging requires excellent contrast, high resolution and the capacity to identify small structures. MRI is the most accurate imaging modality for the assessment of musculoskeletal disorders.
The full range of musculoskeletal and spinal MRI examinations is available including specialized cartilage imaging techniques and spinal examinations. MR arthrography is commonly performed in the shoulder, wrist, hip and knee and may be carried out in other joints when required.
Cardiac MRI studies are performed for the evaluation heart structure and
the exclusion of pathologies such as cardiomyopathy. Referrals commonly arise as part of Aspetars comprehensive Athlete Screening Program.
