Exercise physiology focuses on the acute and chronic responses of specific exercise training for competitive athletes. A key function of the Physiology Department is to monitor training and competition to assess the demands of the sport, and the level of physical and physiological stress placed on athletes.
An integrated approach is then taken to work with coaches, athletes and allied scientists, within the training environment, to make recommendations to assist organizations enhance the performance of athletes. Performance testing is structured within the sports annual performance plan, and conducted within one Aspetar’s performance laboratories, or in the field.
Our commitment to applied research is provided in partnership with a number of Aspire Zone members and international sporting organizations. We consistently support local and international sporting teams through the Aspetar altitude dormitory. In conjunction with the department of Athlete Health and Performance Research Centre, our Physiologists aim to understand the relationships between altitude exposure and training load, and provide comprehensive monitoring for visiting athletes using this facility to improve their performance.
