Through its National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP), Aspetar has set up onsite facilities to offer a range of comprehensive medical services to all participating athletes, including physical therapy and sports massages, in addition to ambulances and fully equipped clinics. Aspetar’s top-notch NSMP nurses, physiotherapists and massage therapists will be on hand to provide immediate medical care throughout the event.

Events like the Diamond League provide a great opportunity for a significant number of athletes to visit Aspetar for their treatment. Some of the leading athletes benefitting from Aspetar’s services include long and middle distance Olympic champions, including gold medallist LaShawn Merritt and silver-medallist, Mutaz Barshim.

Commenting on this partnership, Dr. Mohamed Ghaith Al-Kuwari, Acting Director General of Aspetar, said:

As with previous years, Aspetar will continue to provide medical support to the IAAF Diamond League as its medical partner. The ongoing collaboration between Aspetar and the Qatar Athletics Federation demonstrates the high level of trust placed in Aspetar’s experts and services by the QAF. Our participation in this tournament is also beneficial to our experts, who will gain more knowledge and experience as we prepare for the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Athletics taking place in our beloved Qatar.”

Speaking about Aspetar’s role in elevating the field of sports medicine in Qatar, Mutaz Barshim, Qatar’s first Olympic silver-medallist, said:

“Sports medicine plays a big role in helping players improve their performance physically and mentally. Some of the things I learned through my experience in Aspetar is how to protect my body from injury and deal with it emotionally and physically. Aspetar’s comprehensive approach to athlete management, from physical to emotional wellness, makes a significant difference in the speed and quality of recovery.”

Commenting on his return to Qatar for the IAAF Diamond League 2017, US Olympic Champion LaShawn Merritt said:

“I always enjoy coming to Qatar to train and compete, taking full advantage of the great sporting facilities in the country, such as Aspetar. It’s also an opportunity for me to meet with my former coach Dwayne Miller, who has been in Doha for a couple of years, for advice and consultation.”

Since opening its doors in 2007, Aspetar has provided comprehensive, world-class medical care to sporting teams through its National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP), delivered by the hospital’s leading sports medicine experts and doctors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, nutritionists and rehabilitation experts.
