NSMP’s Education Strategy covers a multitude of levels to ensure that practitioners are up-to-date with current best practice, therefore guaranteeing they deliver applied, appropriate knowledge to better implement the project; build evidence based training methodologies, and provide workshops and lectures on a range of topics related to Sports Sciences and Sports Medicine.
There are a broad categories of educational opportunities within Aspetar, including Professional Education, which includes the highly anticipated and well attended Aspetar Tuesday Lectures (equivalent to ‘Grand Rounds’ in a traditional hospital), and Patient Education, which is comprised of a wide range of multimedia available on numerous subjects across several platforms.
NSMP also maintains a high level of continued professional development (CPD) by creating and sustaining educational initiatives and approaches for all medical staff, thereby assisting employees to evolve whilst simultaneously resulting in enhanced care for all athletes.
As well as creating a standardised approach to sports medicine provisions, these initiatives also ensure continuity of care between all athletes within Aspetar and the clubs and federations.
Increasing interactions amongst all three has allowed NSMP to develop programmes such as the Club / Physio Mentorship Programme and Club / Doctor Fellowship Programme. In collaboration with the Rehabilitation Department, the Physio Mentorship Programme allows club physio’s to attend the Rehabilitation Department daily over a course of six weeks, while the Fellowship Programme involves doctors spending 20 hours a month within various departments in Aspetar.
In addition, Meet the Leaders, another NSMP initiative, aims to bring leaders in sports science and football to deliver workshops to, and interact with, the Excellence in Football staff.
A multitude of educational initiatives are also being conducted, such as:
- Sports Physiotherapy Level 1 course for Aspire Health Centre Physiotherapists
- Cardiology course for NSMP Doctors
- NSMP Shoulder course and Aspetar Shoulder course
- Aspetar Sports Physiotherapy Level 2 – Shoulder course
- Aspetar Sports Physiotherapy Level 1 Exam – Written Component
