Normobaric Hypoxic (Altitude) Rooms
The Aspetar Altitude Dormitory is a purpose-built normobaric hypoxic facility that
utilises an oxygen filtration system to reduce the concentration of oxygen, with
an altitude range from 1.000 to 12.000 feet. (from 100 to 4.000 meters)
This enables athletes to adopt a “live high - train low” regime whereby they can
reside in comfort at a moderate altitude, while training at sea level, thereby potentially
enhancing their performance.
This is further enhanced by the immediate access to world class sports medicine
and laboratory services to assist in their physiological evaluation.
Athletes are required to spend a minimum of 10 hours per day/night in the hypoxic
room or the surrounding living common rooms over a period of 2 to 4 weeks, while
his/her vital signs and SPO2 saturation level (oxygen percentage) is checked by
a physiologist on a daily basis.
Aspetar has 25 normobaric rooms, all of which offer the following facilities:
- 2 single beds
- Ensuite bathroom
- Telephone
- Television
- Internet
The communal living area, also at altitude, contains computers, LCD TVs and PlayStation
3 game consoles.
